Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Comply with all Safety, Operational and Employment policies and practices.
  • Follow quality requirements to meet or exceed specifications.
  • Support the Process Engineer in activities to include analysis of departmental costs, investigation of significant variances, corrective actions and keeping production informed of actions taken.
  • Manage, coordinate or assist with the activities of all hourly employees on assigned shift.
  • Manage all production activities for assigned shift. Schedule shift employees and ensure crew is fully manned to cover vacations, absences and minimize overtime by utilizing your staff appropriately.
  • Train, direct and mentor employees with diverse language, cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Build and maintain productive employee relationships whiling driving employee satisfaction. Provide direction, coaching, counseling and review disciplinary action with the Operations Manager.
  • Understand what each machine requires to operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure that your shift is following protocols set in place by the quality department pertaining to documentation and cleaning procedures.
  • Understand the different defects to help assist in rectifying issues within the shift.
  • Ensure crew is producing a quality product that meets the specifications and expectations of the plants quality objectives, the customer’s expectations and managements’ quality statement.
  • Ensure all required shift documentation, such as production reports, are filled out completely and turned in daily.
  • Ensure that all employees conduct themselves in a manner that is conducive for safety. Take the initiative to ensure that the floors are clean and cleared at all times and that waste is not over flowing onto the floor which could result in an accident.
  • Maintain required Good Manufacturing Practices and 5S Compliance.
  • Possess intuitive abilities to anticipate inefficiencies and bring constructive solutions in advance
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, good interpersonal and strong leadership skills
  • All other duties as assigned.

SQF Responsibilities

  • Overall supervision of department activities and personnel.
  • Ensure subordinates are trained and competent to comply with product quality and food safety requirements.
  • Day to day compliance with quality, food safety and prerequisite programs.
  • Report & resolve food safety concerns.
  • The backups are the other Dept. Managers

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Two – three years Supervisory or related experience
  • Experience working in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Metric Driven
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop individuals and teams.
  • Trouble shooting/problem solving skills
  • Experience managing within an ISO/SQF certified environment
